Linklaters has tapped Theresa Ma, currently a partner in its Hong Kong office, to be the new head of the firm’s Shanghai office. She has focused on public and private M&A and international equity for more than 15 years, both in  Hong Kong and the U.K.  She will  relocate to Shanghai to join the other Shanghai partners William Lui, Simon Po and Jian Fang,  Linklaters also plans to relocate partner Robert Cleaver from its London office to Hong Kong in order to bolster its presence in China.

Paul Westover, a partner at Tanner De Witt, will rejoin  Stephenson Harwood as a corporate partner in its Hong Kong office.   The firm has also added senior solicitor Simon Wong and Karen Cheng to the Hong Kong office, while associates Zoe Zhou and Steven  have  joined the Guangzhou and Shanghai offices, respectively.

Stephenson is also making news outside of its partner moves by recently announcing a name change, effective February 1, 2010.  The Firm’s name had been Stephenson Harwood & Lo, the result of a 30 year joint venture between Stephenson and local Hong Kong firm Lo & Lo.  The decision to split was based on each firm’s ability to operate independently of one another now that Stephenson has a solid foothold in Hong Kong and Lo & Lo has developed stronger corporate capabilities.  Further, both firms may benefit by being subject to fewer conflicts of interest which may allow both take on new clients which they may have previously been prevented from accepting.
