Legal Tools: Japanese Law Translation

by on March 29, 2010

I recently came across a site that may be quite a useful tool for lawyers whole practice in Japan or deal with Japanese firms from abroad.  The Japanese Ministry of Justice created a new website in April, 2009 which provides official English translations of a wide range of Japanese statutes and regulations. There is also a feature which offers bilingual versions of laws and regulations.

There are numerous functions available, most of which are fairly simple to use.  These include:  legal search tools classified by names of laws, legal provisions, and legal field, as well as a searchable dictionary and keyword in context search. Another helpful feature is that the translated laws can be viewed and downloaded as as Word or PDF documents.
