Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP recently  appointed Maurice Hoo as a partner and co-head of the firm’s global Private Equity Practice.

From the Orrick press release:

“Based in Hong Kong, Mr. Hoo will have a regional and global private equity remit. He formerly led the China private equity practice of U.S. law firm, Paul Hastings.

Recognized as a leading private equity practitioner in Asia*, Mr. Hoo is an accomplished private equity lawyer with a client base that includes some of the world’s leading private equity funds and financial institutions. He regularly represents international private equity funds such as Warburg Pincus, as well as private equity groups within global financial institutions such as AIG Investments, in investments in China and other parts of Asia.

Don Keller, global head of Orrick’s Corporate Group, explained: ‘We are very excited that Maurice is joining Orrick and has agreed to take on an important global leadership role within our firm. Orrick has a long-standing strategic priority to build a market-leading private equity practice globally, as well as in China and Asia. In addition to  enhancing the capabilities of our sizeable China Corporate Group, our decision to appoint Maurice to co-lead the development of our global private equity practice from Hong Kong shows just how important the private equity market is for our clients.”‘

“Mr. Hoo’s appointment comes at a time of significant expansion for the firm in China.  In the last few months, Orrick has announced the appointment of several new partners in the China offices: Allen Shyu’s appointment in March as a member of the firm’s Greater China U.S. Securities Practice from Baker McKenzie; Andrew Dale’s elevation to partnership in Orrick’s dispute resolution practice in Hong Kong in February; Michael Haworth’s relocation to Orrick’s Hong Kong office to lead the firm’s regional real estate practice in January and the addition of corporate partners Niping Wu from Cleary Gottlieb, Phoebus Chu from Paul Hastings and Thomas Tobiason who relocated from Silicon Valley to Shanghai.”
